Falling forward

29 Sep

Our Indian summer hit hard for about three days, but I can already feel fall coming on. It would be more difficult to embrace if the upcoming season’s trends weren’t so delicious…

Alexander Wang Diego bag and mesh hoodie, Deena & Ozzy hat, Giuseppe Zanotti leopard wedges, Lorac sheer lipstick, Topshop faux leather trousers

I’d love to be wearing just this. I’m all for the leopard/animal print thing going on right now, and I can’t get enough leather (even if it’s pleather).

What trends are you excited about for fall?!

Not your average tea party

27 Sep

This under.ligne by Doo.Ri dress is officially my favorite new piece. It fits like a glove, and the leather and mesh panelling adds the perfect dose of edge to an otherwise simple LBD.

During our New York visit, I was SO honored to be invited to Doo-Ri’s studio (along with some amazing bloggers) for a “Crafternoon Tea”. The adorable little party – complete with mini-sandwiches, Magnolia cupcakes, and of course, tea! – was in celebration of Ms. Chung’s collaboration with talented jewelry designer, Melissa Joy Manning. We chit-chatted the afternoon away, all the while exercising our fingers for the sake of friendship bracelets. Yep, that’s right, Melissa Joy Manning taught me to make jewelry!

We got a sneak preview of their INCREDIBLE collaboration, and while I swore I’d never use the phrase “I Die”, it pretty much hits the nail on the head. Think giant spike rings with chain draping, thick, embellished cuffs, and metal gloves. My heart skipped a beat.

The entire collection has not yet been released, but click here for a little taste from the Doo.Ri S/S 2011 show.

Huge thanks to Deanne for inviting me, and of course Doo-Ri and Melissa for hosting such a lovely party!!

Tory Burch Spring 2011 Collection

25 Sep

How rad are those straw platforms? They had them in beige too, but I love the navy.

I couldn’t get enough of the color palette Tory Burch chose for her S/S 2011 collection — nudes, navys, and mustards, with exciting bursts of coral or metallic. This dress on the right was my favorite piece — there is something so fun and unexpected about the baby pink and coral combo, don’t you think?

While her overall aesthetic is a bit conservative for my taste, that is not to say I don’t totally enjoy and admire her work. Tory Burch’s designs are so classic – she has a way of creating these fresh, tasteful looks that are appropriate for women of any age. It was a fantastic presentation and I’m so glad I was able to attend! (Too bad I just missed Kanye and Anna Wintour. Shucks.)

Breaking the rules

Breaking the rules

I love this new dress that I got from Urban 1972 — forrest green is one of my all time favorite colors, and the jersey/modal material = comfort beyond belief. It’s one of those effortless pieces you can just throw on and feel pretty in… easy peasy!

Was having one of those days where I couldn’t stay still… feeling a bit rambunctious, you know what I mean? So, I figured I’d add a little wackiness to my look. Threw on some layers (a trick I like to try from time to time), added “sash” of pearls, and plopped on this old hat — recovered from the deepest, darkest depths of my closet.

My favorite part about fashion is there are no rules (at least that’s how I feel).  Sometimes the strangest combinations end up coming together in a way that you’d never expect.  Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, or take another look through that box of clothes you’ve been meaning to get rid of… sometimes scrappiness is key and you don’t need to buy a new wardrobe to create a whole new look!

Urban Forest

20 Sep

One of my favorite shows at New York Fashion Week was Toni Francesc. The Spring/Summer 2011 collection was inspired by nature, transfering a forest-based concept to a city environment. The overall collection was much softer than his last, but Toni still stayed true to the futuristic element that makes his designs unique.

I love that Toni collaborated with jewelry designer, Nashelle, to incorporate strong wooden accessories and detailing throughout the presentation. I wish I had brought my camera and snapped a photo of the wooden spike ring – it had to be at least 5 inches tall, and sharp as a knife… a total vampire murder weapon. And the shoes!! Ohh, the shoes…

The Lincoln Logs

19 Sep

I’m back in SF… caught up on sleep and slowly sinking back into reality. Our Fashion Week adventure is now just a distant memory – but oh what a wonderful memory it is! Thank goodness for pictures. I feel so lucky to have been able to go and experience the amazing NYFW festivities… it’s sort of like a dream come true.

This season New York Fashion Week was held at the lovely Lincoln Center – a brand new venue after 17 successful years in Bryant Park. I have to say, I missed the charm of Bryant Park, but Lincoln Center made a much more practical home. These photos were taken on our first day, and we had a great time exploring the ins and outs of the surrounding area.

There is no way to even describe the excitement surrounding Fashion Week — there’s an incredible energy that you can actually feel, and beautiful, stylish people as far as the eye can see. Blake and I had so much fun just taking it all in — attending shows, going to parties, catching up with old friends, and making new ones. Ahh, it went by so fast!!  Stay tuned… more pictures and Fashion Week stories to come!

Also, check out my review of the Monique Lhuillier show on the Shop It To Me blog!

And coverage from my Twitterview w/ the amazing Mickey Boardman of Paper Magazine on IFB.

Au Revoir NYC

16 Sep

My bags are packed and tonight I head back to San Francisco. I cannot get enough of New York, but living out of a suitcase has me feeling a bit disoriented. It’s been an amazing week and I cannot wait to share stories with you, but all I can think about now is catching up on work and sleep! Good thing it’s almost the weekend… phew!!

Saw a few great shows, made some amazing new friends, and ate more pizza than I thought humanly possible. Stay tuned for pictures and more!! <3
